Nine cars. Never a tenth.

A private collection kept in Oxfordshire and handed over in London, to members who would rather drive than own.

Most fleets grow until nobody knows the cars. Ours stopped at nine, in 2018, and has stayed there.

Ruaridh Sinclair spent eleven years racing endurance cars and the four after that running a works GT programme, which is a good way to learn that a car is only as good as the people who look after it.

So Belgrave Nine is built the other way round from most hire companies. We started with a workshop and a chief technician, then bought cars we could keep properly. Every one of them covers about four thousand miles a year, which is roughly four times what a privately owned supercar manages, and they are all the better for it.

Drives

Three routes we have driven enough times to know where the surface changes and which pub opens early.

The Evenlode

Out before six, home before the traffic. The Evenlode exists because a member asked whether it was possible to do something worthwhile with a car and still be back in London for lunch.

One day 140 miles Cotswolds
The route

The Bealach

The hardest road in Britain, and the emptiest. Three days in the north west, built around one road.

Three days 480 miles Scottish Highlands
The route

Route Napoleon

Geneva to the Mediterranean, the interesting way. Five days from the Alps down to the coast, following the road Napoleon took north in 1815 in the opposite direction and considerably faster.

Five days 900 miles French Alps and Provence

How a day works

The car is prepared over three days and photographed panel by panel on the morning of your hire. We either hand it over on Motcomb Street or bring it to you, anywhere within 250 miles, on a covered transporter.

You get 240 miles a day, comprehensive insurance, and a phone number that reaches somebody who knows the car. When you bring it back we walk round it together, in daylight, with the same camera.

Nine cars, and a diary with gaps in it

Tell us the dates and we will tell you honestly what is free, what is not, and which of the nine we would actually recommend for what you have in mind.
