S/Y Meltemi
Ninety years, four winters, one boat
Meltemi went down the ways on the Clyde in 1936, raced before the war, carried cargo after it, and was found half-forgotten in a Turkish yard in 2014. Her restoration took four winters: new frames where needed, original bronze wherever possible, and not one concession that shows above deck.
Sailing her is theatre. Five crew set her canvas by hand, and when it fills, ninety years of hull simply lean in and go. Below, mahogany panelling, green leather and oil lamps hold the century at bay, discreetly assisted by air conditioning and a very modern galley.
She suits romantics, anniversaries, and anyone who believes a boat should have a biography.
