THE SHAPE OF THE TRIP · 10 DAYS

The itinerary

DAYS 1–3

In from the dam

From the Suorva dam wall straight into it: pathless heath, the first cold fords, and camps pitched wherever the ground and the wind agree. The Niják massif rises ahead like a promise the map keeps repeating.

DAYS 4–6

The high crossing

Over the Snávvávágge saddle at 1,179m between glaciers with the whole park unrolled, then down into upper Rapadalen where the willow thickets begin — slow, wet, occasionally comic terrain that buys the valley's absolute solitude.

DAYS 7–10

Rapadalen and out

Down the great trench among braided channels and moose meadows, the climb to Skierffe's edge for the delta view that justifies every blister, and the long forest miles to Aktse and Kvikkjokk — where the hut, the sauna and the boat feel like science fiction.

WHY THIS ROUTE

The expedition

Sarek is the alibi-free national park: a hundred kilometres of glaciated mountains with no marked trail, no huts, no phone coverage and rivers you cross by finding the right braid at the right hour. We traverse from Suorva to Kvikkjokk through the Rapadalen — the great moose-haunted trench whose delta, seen from Skierffe's cliff edge, is the most photographed view in Sweden precisely because almost nobody earns it on foot. Ten days fully loaded (18–20kg to start), five hours of map-and-compass a day, fords up to thigh height, weather from all four seasons on rotation. Grade 5 means grade 5. Honest note: we vet every applicant by phone, previous multi-day wild-camping experience is non-negotiable, and the two of you we turn away each season thank us eventually.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Zero infrastructure: the point, the whole point
  • Skierffe's 700m cliff over the Rapa delta
  • Moose, wolverine tracks, golden eagles
  • Glacier-fed fords done the safe, slow way
  • 18kg of self-sufficiency, carried with reasons
  • Six walkers, two guides, no compromises

STRAIGHT ANSWER

Is this for you?

You should be able to say yes — honestly — to all of these:

  • You are at the hard end of what we run: sustained, committing days with genuine consequence. We vet every booking for this trip by phone.
  • You are happy in a tent, in weather, with no shower and an early kettle.
  • You would rather be told the truth about a hard day than sold an easy one.

Grade 5 means grade 5. If you're not sure, ring us — we'd rather lose a booking than carry a struggle.
